Study Support Roles:

We offer a range of services, both in person and remotely, to meet our students' needs. We offer both private and DSA-funded study support. Have something else in mind? We'd be happy to work with you to create a custom quote for any privately funded study support.

All our tutors and mentors who deliver DSA-funded support meet the qualification threshold laid out under the SFE guidance. Our lead tutors and mentors have extensive experience in providing DSA support and supporting students with the application process.

Why choose us?

We are student-centred with nearly 18 years of experience in education. We know what works and what doesn’t. This process can be daunting for students and NMH staff, and we are here to make the process easier and more supportive. We are person-centred and student-led! We also pay a good rate to the NMH’s as we belive you are worth it!

Greater London

We are currently looking for practitioners for the roles listed above. Work is on a subcontracting basis and paid at an hourly rate. You will need to be registered as self-employed and have a UTR number, or be willing to be registered.

We offer a decent rate of pay because we believe your role is worthy. The rate of pay for tutors and mentors is £38-£43 per hour, depending on length of service and experience, and you will need to be self-employed. Note-taking is £18 per hour.

Having spent 15 years working in the sector, without a pay rise and at times on very low pay, we understand what our staff are worth. It is also a tough job sometimes, and we expect excellence from our staff!

We are looking for practitioners across the UK for both in-person and remote work. You will be paid for the hours that you work with the students.

It would be beneficial to have experience working with Higher Education students; however, it is not a definitive requirement. We will consider your application if you meet the qualifications threshold.

We will also consider your application if you are able to complete any required qualifications/training before you begin working with students or during your time working with students.

Please note that we operate zero-hour contracts, and work depends on students being allocated to us.

DSA Application Process

Step One

Apply for Disabled Students’ Allowance(DSA) through your Student Finance application by ticking the DSA box. You’ll then complete a DSA1 Slim Form (or a DSA1 Full Form if you’re a postgraduate or self-funding student) and provide the required evidence.
You can also apply later, once you’re at university, by completing the relevant DSA1 form.

Step Two

Once the application has been reviewed, the SFE will email/write with instructions on booking a needs assessment. This may be in person or online via Study Tech or Capita.

It’s helpful to know what support you might need prior to your meeting, so have a think about where you struggle and what challenges you need support with.

Step Three

A needs assessment report (NAR) is sent to you and the SFE. Next, you receive a DSA 2 outlining your NMH providers. Contact the providers to set up your support. Contact details are on the DSA 2.

Read the DSA2 to understand the process. Once you have got in touch, the provider should respond within 10 working days to set up the support.

Step Four

Meet with your NMH and discuss your needs. The tutor or mentor assigned to you will contact you to book a session. This can be a stressful process, but at A Space To Thrive, we will make every endeavour to ensure it is smooth (as former students, we know how stressful it can be).

We also endeavour to match you with tutors and mentors that meet your needs.
