Specialist Mentors ASC & Mental Health
What you’ll do:
Delivering tailored mentoring sessions based on each student's individual needs.
Supporting students with organisation, time management, planning, motivation, anxiety management and balancing academic demands.
Encouraging confidence, resilience and independent learning.
Developing and reviewing personalised support strategies with your students.
Organising and managing your own appointments.
Delivering support online, on campus or at another agreed location.
Completing session records accurately and within agreed timescales.
Maintaining high professional standards, including safeguarding, confidentiality and professional boundaries.
You will have:
Qualifications and memberships relevant to the role as laid out in the Qualifications matrix via the SFE/DSA (see below)
Experience supporting students or adults with mental health conditions, autism or other disabilities.
An understanding of the challenges faced by students in higher education.
The ability to build positive, professional and supportive relationships.
Strong organisational and time management skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
The ability to recognise when a student would benefit from additional support and confidently signpost or refer them to appropriate services.
A commitment to maintaining your Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Specialist Mentors Mental Health: Qualifications
You will be educated to degree level and must be a member of at least one of the organisations listed in the Qualifications Matrix.
For example:
Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP) – Full member.
The British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) – Accredited membership.
The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)
Registered Member (MBACP)
Accredited Member (MBACP – Accred)
British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) – Under a member institution – Practitioners become registrants of the BPC through their membership of one of their member institutions. They do not have a category for individual membership.
British Psychological Society (BPS) – Chartered Member (CPsychol)/IAPT register/ Graduate Member (MBPsS) AND a PG qualification in Psychology or Mental Health.

Specialist Mentors ASC: Qualifications
Essential Qualifications and Training: Hold a degree and comprehensive training in adult autism with one or more of the following:
ALL 6 National Autistic Society (NAS) core autism online training modules
Optimum Student Support NON-MEDICAL HELPER (NMH) SKILLS TRAINING COURSE: Mentoring and Study Skills and Strategy Support for autistic and ADHD students in HE
An NAS tutor-led course ‘Understanding Autism’ or ‘Introduction to Autism and the SPELL Framework’
Other training, delivered by an appropriately qualified trainer (a qualified trainer from a recognised organisation/charity, or a trainer who can demonstrate a relevant qualification in Autism)
ADHD and Autism in Higher Education: Recognising and Addressing the Barriers
OR - Holds a relevant postgraduate MA or PHD qualification in a relevant subject and one or more of the training as above.
